About our Lab
The Nakamoto Laboratory is a part of the Physical Electronics Department of the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Our major research interest is bioelectronics
, mainly related to chemical sensing system. It includes a variety of the fields from sensing materials to sensor information processing systems. This is an interdisciplinary area among electronics, computer science, chemistry, biology, fluid mechanics etc. The current interests encompass an odor sensing system, a sensor signal processing circuit (odor chip), an odor recorder and an olfactory display. Odor sensing system Odor sensing system, called electronic nose or artificial olfaction, uses responses of the broadly tuned gas sensors and pattern recognition techniques to distinguish between different odors. More on the topic here. |
Odor recorder The odor recorder developed in our laboratory is an instrument capable of determining the qualitative and quantitative composition of the target smell (e.g. orange), so called odor recipe thst is used to reproduce the target smell at any time. Here are details. |

Sensor signal processing circuit The output pattern of multiple sensors is recognized in an odor sensing system. An odor recognition chip is an ASIC (Application Specific IC) for both measurement of sensor responses and pattern recognition. Here are the details on the topic. |
